Up for grabs is an original 1979 UK first issue of Pink Floyd’s The Wall on Harvest Records: SHDW 411 / SHSP 4111 / SHSP 4112, graded a superb EX/EX.

This isn’t simply an early copy of one of the biggest albums ever made. It retains all the key details collectors look for on an original UK issue: the clear title sticker, early gatefold artwork, original rounded lyric inners, and early TML-mastered matrices.

A Masterpiece Born from Isolation

When Pink Floyd released The Wall in November 1979, they were already one of the biggest bands on the planet.

The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals had established them as masters of vast, atmospheric records that felt almost architectural in scale. But The Wall took that ambition somewhere altogether darker.

Built largely around Roger Waters’ ideas of isolation, childhood trauma, fame, and emotional detachment, the album became a sprawling 26-track rock opera centred around the character of Pink and the metaphorical wall he gradually builds between himself and the world around him. 

It could easily have disappeared under the weight of its own concept. Instead, it produced some of the most recognisable music Pink Floyd ever recorded.

Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) became a worldwide hit. Hey You, Mother, and Goodbye Blue Sky brought quieter and more vulnerable moments, while Comfortably Numb delivered one of David Gilmour’s defining performances and a guitar solo that still regularly appears in conversations about the greatest ever recorded.

More than four decades later, The Wall remains enormous, strange, theatrical, and completely unmistakable.

What Makes This Copy Special

Original UK copies turn up, but finding one this complete and in this condition is another matter entirely.

The Original Title Sticker

The front of the sleeve carries the original clear-backed Pink Floyd – The Wall title sticker applied over Gerald Scarfe’s famous brick artwork. On later versions, the presentation changed, making the original sticker an immediately recognisable feature of the early UK issue.

The Early Gatefold

Open the sleeve and you find the original early credit layout, without the separate individual Pink Floyd band-member credit block found on later issues. It’s a subtle detail, but exactly what collectors look for when identifying an authentic first-issue sleeve.

The Original Lyric Inners

Both original rounded/notched card lyric sleeves are still present. Inside, you'll find one of the most fascinating first-issue quirks: the Side Two inner contains the lyrics to "What Shall We Do Now?", a song prepared for the album but cut from the finished studio release at the last minute. The artwork had already gone to press, l

eaving those unreleased lyrics behind as a permanent snapshot of the album's assembly in 1979.

These runout codes sit alongside TML-X markings from The Mastering Lab, confirming a proper original-era UK audiophile cut rather than a later reissue.

Condition: EX/EX

Most importantly, it has survived exceptionally well. Both the records and packaging grade at EX/EX, making this a superb collector’s copy. For an album approaching its 50th birthday, that is exactly how we like to find them.
